Glasgow, the largest city in Scotland and third largest in the UK has been steadily building on its reputation as a financial stronghold in the north. The “Dear Green Place” now sees green of a different kind, with well-known American investment banks and other financial institutions growing roots and shaping its employment landscape.
Glasgow WIBF, launched in 2009, has been keeping pace with these exciting developments and has been steadily growing its membership. We have had a great few years recently, with informative seminars, networking events and our Mentoring Programme.
Laura Thorburn, our newly appointed Chair is leading Glasgow WIBF:” I am very excited to take on the role of Chair for WIBF Glasgow; we have a fantastic board and wider network. I firmly believe that with a concerted effort, teamwork and creativity we will deliver outstanding career development events, exciting opportunities for networking and recognition, and industry acknowledged thought leadership. I hope to see as many of our members and supporters at future events, let’s continue to build up the profile of WIBF Glasgow and build a platform for continued progression across our sector.”
With members from Carlyle Executive Search, Arthur J. Gallagher, Morgan Stanley, RBS, Tesco Bank, , BNP Paribas and many other investment banks, retail banks, accountancy firms, insurers, and other reputable financial institutions, our events bring a diverse group of women together in a relaxed, fun and informal setting. From interactive workshops to wine tastings, guest speaker presentations to mentor/mentee speed networking, our members have a plethora of options to share knowledge, enhance their skills and broaden their professional network.
In 2017, we enjoyed Burns Supper with Glasgow Toastmasters, spoke about creating a reputation with Lorna Hudson, talked about The Imposter Syndrome with Caroline Holt, learnt how to speak as leaders with Aletta Rochat, worked on our Self-Awareness with Susan Coull, participated in workshops for Social media and Effective meetings as well as enjoyed some fine wines in Inverarity and closing the year with a special Christmas event at House of Fraser.
In 2018, we have continued with events on how to Eat, Move, and Recover after the Holidays, Personal Branding, International Women’s Day, managing Change and Change Approaches, the Gender Pay Gap and Career Advice for Ambitious Women with Professor Heather McGregor CBE.
Our board is constantly enriched with members keen to get involved and add value to events and other activities. It has also been the springboard for members to join our WIBF Executive Board, such as Cristina Chimenti, WIBF Chief Finance Officer and Maria Dickson, newly appointed WIBF Chief Operating Officer.
