Perspectives on the new year

As January finally comes to and end and we all get to grips with what the new year holds for us, we have spoken to one of our fantastic volunteers – Dr Urszula Wysocka a London Mentoring Team Member and Mentor at WIBF – to get her reflections and perspectives for 2024.

What is your personal highlight of 2023 as a WIBF volunteer?

I’m quite a new member having joined at the beginning of 2023, I very quickly realised  that I could contribute more by using my professional knowledge and experience to support the WIBF team in fulfilling areas of the strategy. I started to volunteer, meeting inspiring women from across the organisation and deepening my understanding of its purpose – it has helped me to put ideas forward that I am excited to help make happen in 2024.

What New Year’s Resolution are you going to set yourself as a WIBF volunteer?

I would like to have a real impact on WIBF – breathing life into the ideas and projects that I feel would make a difference to our members and mission. Alongside some new ideas I’m focused on the work I’m doing with the London mentoring team and ensuring our mentors and mentees have the best experience.

What are your hopes for the financial services industry in 2024?

The financial services industry is I believe one of, if not the most dynamic industries, but it has many challenges. As an industry where I’d love to see us making the most collective progress in 2024 is in building cultures of deep learning. Building teams within organisations that are open to exploring old and new ideas, expanding knowledge and leveraging it to make better decisions. Decisions that will play a part in building the future of our industry.

What advice would you like to share with fellow WIBF members?

The world is changing, and customers’ expectations are changing, so employees and businesses should be changing too. I think that throughout the year we should concentrate on creating the change we want to see. What are our goals and the steps we need to take to achieve these goals? By always believing in ourselves, thinking about our values, and our superpowers we will all be able to make a difference.

Thank you Urszula!
