Her Majesty The Queen, a much-loved figure respected across the globe, has passed away. WIBF would like to pay thankful tribute for her selfless and devoted service – through both good times and bad – and reflect on the extraordinary transformation in the position of women that took place during her 70 years on the throne.

From the day Elizabeth II was crowned at Westminster Abbey in 1953, she changed the face of modern monarchy. She fully demonstrated the dignity and strength a woman could deliver to the role.

The extraordinary individual who looks out at us from our coins and banknotes helped lead the way in breaking down gender stereotypes and barriers, not least in financial services. She was the first woman to set foot in the London Stock Exchange. She also took an active role in defending her nation: she trained as a mechanic during World War II, and saw active service in the Auxiliary Territorial Service.

Her Majesty The Queen was the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, and lived an outstanding life of service and duty to the nation. Our thoughts are with her family and friends on this sad day. We will all miss her.
