Despite competing with a glorious summers evening and an England World Cup football match we had a good turnout for this event, the second in the Millennials Network’s Digital series.
After a warm welcome from Macquarie who were kindly hosting this event and WIBF’s Cristina Serrano we kicked off the event with Tara Annison, Business Analyst from LendingBlock who gave a very enthusiastic and useful introduction to Blockchain, her passion for the subject was very clear and she explained it clearly for those new to Blockchain and cryptocurrency. She explained the processes and properties and that Blockchain was the underlying technology which enabled the creation and distribution of bitcoins. It is however a combination of technologies/mathematical principals which existed beforehand but put together in a very intelligent way.
Neelima Fernandes, a Risk, Innovation & Regulatory Developments Consultant took to the stage to thank Tara for such an excellent overview and introduced the panel which included Tara, Estelle Roiena, Senior Associate, Business Development & Sales, R3 and Daniel Broby, Director, Centre for Financial Regulation and Innovation.
Neelima asked the panel questions about the uses of blockchain, the ‘dark side’ and how the banks were starting to take notice of how blockchain can be used.
There were also questions from the audience and the evening was rounded off with drinks, networking and further discussion.
