We’re delighted to welcome Sue Unerman and Kathryn Jacob as our guest speakers in our new Hot Topics programme.

Sue and Kathryn are authors of The Glass Wall, a bestselling book, looking at success strategies for women at work - and businesses which mean business.

Their book is available on Amazon. Amazon summarise the book as follows:

“In the workplace today there’s a glass wall. Men and women can see each other clearly through the divide, but they don’t speak the same language or have the same expectations. And as a result, women and their careers are suffering. With more women than ever in the workforce, but still too few in the boardroom, now is the time to address the assumptions and miscommunication holding women back. This book gives women the tools they need to master any situation. Drawing on Unerman and Jacob’s own experience in male-dominated businesses, as well as over a hundred interviews with both men and women, The Glass Wall provides clear, smart and easy-to apply strategies for success. From unlocking ambition and developing resilience to nurturing creativity and getting noticed, these are the skills that everyone needs to learn to help break down that wall and create better workplaces for all.”

Sue and Kathryn will present the book’s findings and host a Q&A session for WIBF members & guests. This will be followed by the opportunity to purchase the book and a book signing session.

Kathryn Jacob OBE

In Kathryn’s pre-cinema life she worked in national newspapers, magazines and radio. Following the sale of Ginger Media Group to Scottish Media, her new role encompassed television, posters, radio and cinema. The lure of the big screen was impossible to resist and so she joined Pearl & Dean as CEO. Building on the reputation of Pearl & Dean, the team have grown their activities outside of the usual venues into pop up cinema, cinemas on luxurious ships, film partnerships and product placement.

In 2016 Kathryn co-wrote ‘The Glass Wall’ with Sue Unerman, aiming to use their experiences and research to help women and businesses thrive. In the same year Kathryn was honoured with an OBE for services to the promotion of equality and diversity.

Outside of work Kathryn sits on the board of Women’s Aid, the Development Board at RADA, the board of the Association of Colleges and the Council and board of the Advertising Association. She’s on the Government Expert Group on Body Confidence. She has two children, a naughty dog, a lovely husband and not enough hours in the day.
