On 12th April, WIBF had pleasure of spending an intimate evening with Caroline Gardner, the current Auditor General for Scotland. Caroline took 12 WiBF members and guests through her 30 year career so far. She engaged us with stories of her time addressing financial challenges in the Turks and Caicos islands, and how she navigates the political pressure surrounding the areas she audits, whilst remaining independent.
Caroline answered an array of questions regarding her motivations for working in public service, fulfilling the obligations of the role, policy making, Brexit and the current issues that Audit Scotland is facing today. There was a lively debate around the table on a range of topics ranging from gender pay equality, to how cooperation between the private and public sector could aid the efforts of each. This was a great opportunity for our members to get an insight into the similarities and differences of the public and private sectors, and the challenges and opportunities faced by women in both.
We would like to extend our thanks to Caroline for being an incredible guest and all attendees for the thought provoking questions and a candid atmosphere.
