“Jane exudes confidence, energy and passion…”

Jane Harries joined WIBF Speakers – City Club in June 2016. She enthusiastically embraced signing up for club roles, starting with Timer at her first meeting, then Grammarian in her second meeting before taking on the challenge of the Toastmaster role in only her third meeting. Very brave and ambitious.

In August 2016, Jane delivered her Icebreaker speech titled “Who Am I” (the first speech in the Competent Communicator manual) giving the club an insight into her travels around the world for both work and pleasure.

With her second speech, “Usain, Mo, Jess and me”, Jane won our Club’s Humorous Speech contest in October 2016 and went on to compete at the Division Contest. In February 2017, Jane continued her club winning streak at the International Contest with a “Magic Wand of Illness”, coming second in the Area contest and qualifying for the Divisional Contest. Unfortunately, the date clashed with the Marathon des Sables, known as the toughest footrace on earth, and as it was her goal of completing this race which gave her the inspiration to her speech – there was no competition – the Sahara Desert was a clear winner over attending the Division Contest.

Jane has proven herself with Impromptu Speaking too, winning this year’s Toastmasters Division Table Topics contest, and she’ll now represent Division (91) at the District Contest on 4 November, one of the few women competitors. Adding another impressive feather to this well adorned hat, on 25 November, Jane will present an 18 minute talk on training the body and the mind to change your attitude which thereby empowers one to fulfil ones dreams, at the sold-out TEDx Wandworth event.

Jane exudes confidence, energy and passion though she generously claims her achievements in the past 18 months have only be possible thanks to the support, encouragement and friendship from her WIBF Speakers City Club members. We wish her all the best for the 4 November contest and her TEDx Wandsworth talk.
