We celebrated International Privacy Day on 28th January with a very special panel event , hosted by Women in Banking and Finance and Pinsent Masons. Our very own WIBF President Vivienne Artz, who is also Refinitiv’s Chief Privacy Officer joined a panel of privacy law experts including Kathryn Wynn, Pinsent Mason’s Legal Director, Standard Life Aberdeen DPO Fiona Cadger and Tesco Bank DPO Helen Krushave .
It was interesting to note that women seem to excel in this very detailed and complex subject. The panel were in agreement that the accountability for data protection is not limited to a single DPO team and the ICO expects firms to undertake the work required to embed accountability and drive the associated culture change across the business. The complexities of international laws on this subject were also explored, considering Brexit related implications. It was very clear that GDPR may have come into force on 25th May 2018 but the practicalities are still being understood across many industries.
