WIBF Supper Club: Burns Night 2018 Special
Event overview
Bookings are closed for this event.
Supper Club is back in January 2018 with a Burns Night Special! You don’t have to be Scottish to come and enjoy centuries old tradition, but are guaranteed a wonderful evening of culture and cuisine commemorating Scotland’s greatest bard (Auld Lang Syne being his most famous works).
The evening traditionally begins with the Selkirk Grace, a well-known blessing in the Scottish language, before starters are served. The iconic haggis is then paraded around the room accompanied by a bagpipe player in full highland regalia. The famous “Address to the Haggis” is then paid the dish, and a toast proposed to the haggis by the guests (raise a glass and shout “The Haggis!”), before guests tuck in, accompanied by neeps and tatties (turnip, swede, and potato). Dessert is often Cranachan a traditional Scottish dish.
Guests then enjoy the famous “Toast to the Lassies” (A lighthearted view of the ladies given by a male guest), which has more recently been followed by a “Reply to the Laddies”, whereby a female guest will give her response. For many events the evening finishes with guests joining hands and singing Auld Lang Syne, bringing the supper to an end.
Members are invited to bring their partner if they wish, and whilst tartan is not compulsory, are more than welcome to wear a kilt/sash of their family tartan. Menu alternatives may also be available upon request. Menus and full details will be available in early January, but seats are limited.
Booking for this event is available on request, please email [email protected]. Should you wish to cancel your seat, please let us know by this date for a full refund. After this date, we cannot provide a refund unless a wait list member is available to take the seat.
