The winner of the new WIBF Rising Star Award, alongside the winners of WIBF’s three other individual awards and the team award for Diversity, was announced today at the WIBF Awards Luncheon, proudly supported by Awards sponsor, Citi, in front of an audience of more than 500 senior members of the banking industry at the London Hilton on Park Lane.

The 2018 Women in Banking and Finance Awards for Achievement winners are:

• WIBF Young Professional: Emma Margetts, Visible Alpha, sponsored by Barclays
• WIBF Rising Star: Abisola Barber, Barclays, sponsored by Santander
• WIBF Champion for Women: Tracy Watkinson, Credit Suisse, sponsored by Credit Suisse
• WIBF Team Award for Diversity: Women Connect, Credit Suisse, sponsored by Citi
• WIBF Award for Achievement: Alison McGregor, HSBC, sponsored by Lloyds Banking Group

WIBF President, Vivienne Artz, congratulated today’s winners, and said:

“Women in Banking and Finance’s annual Awards for Achievement is an important day in our network’s calendar – and a very special day for all shortlisted nominees. Right now is also a hugely significant moment in the journey of female emancipation, with this year being the 100th anniversary of women getting the vote. We should mark these moments with pride.

“But we cannot deny that there are still barriers to women achieving what they are capable of, and barriers to achieving the seniority and roles that they aspire to in the workplace.

“We are making progress. There are very real opportunities for women in the banking and financial services sector today, but the Gender Pay Gap reporting shows that there is not yet full equality of opportunity. WIBF wants to make sure that there will be. And not in 100 years time!

“We believe that if the industry’s pay structure were different, then the life/work construct would be different, and more attractive and accessible to both men and women. The current system, to be frank, was set up for men by men, and it is time for a change. The talent pool is very different today, and the work structure should reflect this – instead of reflecting the talent pool of those earlier days of finance and banking.

“Today’s Awards’ finalists have not backed off from the challenge of improving opportunity and equality, despite their already impressive and full working lives. Neither should we. Together, we have the strength, the influence and the inclination to move forward and bring the sector with us.”

Keynote speaker, the Rt Hon Nicky Morgan MP, Chair, Treasury Select Committee, said:

“WIBF’s 21st annual Awards Luncheon is a great opportunity to celebrate the top talent in the banking and finance industry.

“These are the role models who are inspiring thousands of young women to become the next CEO or CFO of a business.”

Citi is the proud sponsor of the 2018 WIBF Awards for Achievement. Manolo Falco, Head of CIB EMEA and Head of Citi Women, EMEA said:

“We are honoured to be partnering with WIBF again this year for the 21st annual Awards for Achievement as the headline sponsor.

“It is crucial that we continue to celebrate women across all industries and these awards highlight how financial services are increasingly recognising the achievements, critical insights and unique skills women bring to the sector, from rising stars to leading individuals and teams.

“Citi is committed to inclusion and ensuring that our managers and employees are continually striving towards diversity of thought at all levels. These awards are just one of the ways in which we can illustrate the importance of recognising exceptional female talent Huge congratulations to all of today’s winners.”

Congratulations to all our winners!”
