MILLENNIAL INITIATIVE LAUNCH

Last year I instigated an investigation into why Millennial women were leaving the banking and finance industry after only a few years in the sector. We established a Millennials working group, led by Giselle Frederick, which looked closely at the issues facing Millennials in our industry.
The Millennial Initiative launched its findings at an event at the end of October, hosted by WIBF Corporate Member, BAML. They looked at new strategies for engaging Millennials, trends in female employment and women’s career development. It was a fascinating evening, which offered new insight into an issue that has been troubling the sector recently.
I would like to thank Giselle and her team for their commitment and excellent work in this area. Many thanks too to BAML for supporting this initiative.

CORPORATE MEMBERS’ BREAKFAST
I would like to thank Standard Life Investments for hosting a very successful Corporate Members’ Breakfast this week. It was an extremely useful opportunity to discuss WIBF priorities and those of our Corporate Members. Sally McFall, recently appointed as WIBF Head of Member Relations, has been conducting Corporate Member surveys so the Breakfast was also a chance for her to report back with her findings and to outline the changes that WIBF will make in response to Corporate Members’ feedback. Thank you to all Corporate Members who attended.

WIBF AWARDS JUDGE APPOINTED SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT TO WORLD BANK | EXCITING NEW ROLE FOR WIBF CHAMPION FOR WOMEN 2015
President of the World Bank, Jim Yong Kim, has announced that Sandie Okoro, a judge for the 2015 and 2016 WIBF Awards for Achievement, has been appointed Senior Vice President and General Counsel to the World Bank. We are very proud that WIBF is associated with Sandie and we wish her all the very best in her new role.
We are proud of all our Award winners and judges, particularly our first male WIBF Champion for Women (2015), Alan Haywood, who has been appointed BP’s Chief Executive Officer Integrated Supply & Trading (IST) from 1st January 2017. Congratulations, Alan.

MILKEN INSTITUTE LONDON SUMMIT 2016
The prestigious Milken Institute is holding its London Summit next week. It will focus on the challenges facing the EU. 120 speakers – business leaders, investors, philanthropists and decision makers – from around the world will come together to look at the issues the EU is tackling. The Milken Institute has generously invited WIBF and some members to attend the summit on Tuesday (6th December). Many thanks to the Milken Institute. The summit promises to be a fascinating event.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS
I’d like to thank the RSC and Sandie Okoro for hosting WIBF and friends at the Barbican for a performance of King Lear this week. It was a wonderful evening and, for me, marked the beginning of the festive season when we hopefully have more time to enjoy the company of friends and colleagues. I hope you all have the opportunity for some rest over the holiday period and enjoy time with your family and friends. I wish you all very happy holidays and a successful new year and look forward to coming together in 2017, rejuvenated and ready for the next steps in our careers.”
