We were delighted to welcome Zita Tulyahikayo to Thomson Reuters for our October PEP event.

The evening began with a welcome from Carien van de Hoop from Refinitiv, the Thomson Reuters’ Financial & Risk unit which has recently been renamed. Manisha Dass, co director of Programmes at WIBF also welcomed everyone to the event and introduced Zita.

Zita Tulyahikayo is a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, ICF accredited Systemic Coach and NLP Master Practitioner, with over ten years in practice in Los Angeles, Stockholm and London.

Zita began by talking about her childhood and how her mother had instilled in her the importance of believing that anything is possible. She spoke about how she made the move from the demanding and highly competitive arena of fashion in both New York and Los Angeles to Life Therapy and refined the art of thinking and communicating both rationally and creatively outside the box.

Zita talked about the power of the mind and how we are affected by what we are told; if we are told something enough we start to believe it. Equally if we think negatively we will also start to believe it.

There was an exercise in pairs that got the audience to talk about what they wanted in life. With five minutes to say what we wanted there was some surprise from the attendees on how it made them feel, some realised they hadn’t vocalised the things they wanted or that they hadn’t really thought about it before. Zita explained that often we (especially women) stop asking for what we want.

Zita also explained that we should use the time first thing in the morning and last thing at night to think about positive things rather than worrying or wake up immediately to put the radio on and listen to the (usually bad) news of the day. She advised that we think about something we want before we go to sleep, a promotion or a raise for example.

There was networking after the event and Zita kindly stayed on to answer the many questions people had for her.

Feedback was very positive:

‘A great session which challenged me and made me think about difficult decisions I had been postponing’

‘Active participation was fantastic’

‘Excellent, could have listened for hours’

‘It was incredible, I loved that we took part and there were lots of activities’
