There is an increasing awareness as we head into the 2020s that companies will be judged not only by the profits they make but by the way in which they go about generating those profits. This is acute in banking and financial services where the expectation is for firms to show that they want to be a part of building a fairer and more sustainable economy.

For UK Finance, Strategic Purpose is a priority. Our aim is to move to a more forward-looking agenda that seeks to embed some of the learning points of the past decade into a framework that places banking and finance in a position to meet the challenges of the future.

This includes an acknowledgement that in setting a firm’s strategic priorities, boards and senior management should consider the interests of key stakeholders, including those of colleagues, customers and the wider community, including environmental responsibility.

To help in our thinking, we are holding a series of three events that will look at the areas that are increasingly important as the core elements of how firms define their strategy, business model and culture:

EVENT ONE: Diversity and Inclusion Reception – 5 September (Free)
With a focus on colleagues, this free event will be a networking reception (3pm - 5pm) focused on diversity and inclusion initiatives that define a modern, well-run company. Speakers include Vivienne Artz, Refinitiv and Women in Banking & Finance, Charlotte Duerden, American Express, and, Suki Sandhu OBE, INvolve Group. We will also hear from the FCA.

EVENT TWO: Climate Risk and Green Finance Conference – 5 November - BOOK HERE
With a focus on climate, this half-day seminar (8:30am – 1pm) will focus on green finance and sustainability developments. Delegates will hear from a range of panelists and speakers including the recently launched Green Finance Institute (GFI), the PRA, and the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). A range of practitioners from a variety of backgrounds will give their view on developing approaches before a panel on the UN Principles for Responsible Banking and Sustainable Development Goals.​

EVENT THREE: Meeting Customer Needs Roundtable – 27 November - BOOK HERE
With a focus on customers, this event will be a breakfast roundtable on meeting customer needs. An invited distinguished panel will look at what framing business goals around the changing needs of customers really means as we head into the next decade.
