A LEADER’S GUIDE TO HANDLING DIFFICULT BEHAVIOUR

April’s PEP event, A Leaders Guide to Handling Difficult Behaviour was a hot topic and awaited with anticipation by many of our members who were able to relate to it with their own personal experiences.

We have all had to work with ‘difficult behaviour’ at one time or another, but true leaders know the negative impact it can have across the organisation, on the company’s brand and its reputation, and can respond effectively on demand.

Our respected speaker, Dr. Suzanne Doyle-Morris, was able to take the audience through a journey using a unique and innovate approach to games based learning, for which her company have won two rounds of a SMART award—no small achievement by any means!

This unique format of a games based PEP workshop, allowed the audience to identify different types of “challenging behaviour” in an easily and relatable way. The game provided the perfect springboard for an open dialogue that was thought provoking, informative and fun!

As the audience navigated through the game, interesting learning points were discovered encouraging them to consider the different ways in which bad behaviour can be called out and how to handle difficult conversations with confidence.

Dr. Suzanne Doyle-Morris is the Founder of InclusIQ Ltd and author of two highly acclaimed books popular in the corporate sector: Beyond the Boys’ Club: Strategies for Achieving Career Success as a Woman Working in a Male Dominated Field and Female Breadwinners: How They Make Relationships Work and Why They are the Future of the Modern Workplace.

Suzanne routinely speaks on BBC Radio 4 and to a range of FTSE 100 companies on workplace diversity issues. Her clients have included Accenture, BBC, BAE Systems, Barclays, Citibank, Clifford Chance, EDF Energy, HP, as well as various industry associations. Suzanne, received her Ph.D from the University of Cambridge and is a Fellow of both the Professional Speakers Association and the Saltire Foundation. She is also accredited by the International Coach Federation and is an Ambassador for Women’s Enterprise Scotland.

By the end of the workshop, members felt empowered to challenge inappropriate behaviour, and understood what it takes to develop a reputation as a leader who can engage effectively with difficult people. Thank you to Citigroup for hosting the event and for the drinks and canapés following the workshop, where members were able to discuss their learning in a more relaxed environment, with many commenting about how great a speaker Suzanne was, and how useful the workshop was for them.

 

A webinar is also going to be hosted in a months time to follow up on the event, providing WIBF members an opportunity to reflect on the workshop and share any additional challenges that they may need assistance with, or even to simply share what they’ve been able to implement and change post the workshop.
