In our 40th Anniversary year, as part of the Women in Banking & Finance (WIBF) Awards Alumni programme, we were delighted to welcome Baroness Shriti Vadera (Chairman, Santander UK) and Michael Cole-Fontayn (Chairman AFME & Chairman CISI) for a fireside chat on the important topic of ‘Men as Allies’. We delved into the challenges and opportunities for change with two leading figures in the banking industry. Exploring how best to leverage the collective influence and personal engagement of male business leaders to advance gender equality.

We are delighted that this event was sponsored by Santander for WIBF’s Alumni and Special Guests.

Baroness Shriti Vadera is a Patron of WIBF and was appointed Chairman of Santander UK in 2014 making her the first woman to chair a major UK bank. Her move to Santander follows a remarkable career that has seen her at the heart of banking, business and Government in the UK and abroad. She also serves as Senior Independent Director of BHP Billiton, Chair of the European Financial Services Chairmen’s Advisory Committee and until recently as Non- Executive Director of AstraZeneca.

Michael Cole-Fontayn is a Patron of WIBF and was appointed Chairman for The Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI) in October 2018 in addition to his role as Chairman of AFME, the Association for Financial Markets in Europe. Michael previously spent 35 years with BNY Mellon, the last 7 years serving as Chairman of BNY Mellon Europe, Middle East and Africa. In that role Michael was responsible for BNY Mellon’s governance culture in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and led regional strategy development, execution and the delivery of enterprise initiatives in the region. External to AFME, Michael sits on numerous financial service industry associations.
