Growing and Sustaining Professionalism in Banking – The Contribution of the Chartered Banker Institute
We are delighted to welcome Joanne Murphy, Chief Operating Officer at the Chartered Banker Institute.
The Chartered Banker Institute is the largest professional body for bankers in the UK, with more than 30,000 members. The oldest Institute in the world, it was founded in 1875, to serve the public interest by enhancing and sustaining the highest standards of customer-focused, ethical professionalism in banking. With members and students in over 87 countries, the Institute actively collaborates with other banking institutes, banks, regulators and policymakers, training providers and others to enhance and sustain professional standards in banking on a global basis.
Joanne Murphy joined the Institute to support the establishment of the Chartered Banker Professional Standards Board (CB:PSB). Joanne led the professional standards implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and devised the supporting operational infrastructure. She oversaw the implementation of the CB:PSB Foundation Standard for Professional Bankers and its subsequent adoption by over 185,000 bankers globally.
Now as the Institute’s Chief Operating Officer, she is responsible for delivering the Institute’s business wide digital transformation strategy and leading the strategic and annual business planning process. Her remit includes driving the professional inclusion agenda and she has executive responsibility across a variety of business function including; Membership, Business Support, Finance, People, Innovation and Marketing.
In this informative session, Joanne will discuss the role of the Institute as it evolves, past and present in the future of banking and the breadth of work from apprenticeships, 2025 Foundation, Young Banker of the Year and in supporting the development of women into senior roles in banking. This includes through the route to Chartered Banker by Experience, which aims to create a network of qualified bankers committed to achieving and maintaining the highest standards of professionalism.
