The verdict on Susan Room’s webinar:

‘Brimming with practical and insightful tips and advice’.

With virtual meetings looking set to remain a mainstay of working life, we were delighted to welcome voice and executive coach, Susan Room, to present her ‘Communicating Inclusively with Remote Teams’ webinar earlier this month.

Susan is a highly engaging speaker and took us through what we do and don’t see, what we do and don’t say and how we say ‘it’ online. This thought-provoking hour-long session was the perfect balance of theory and practical tips. It explored ways that encourage people to speak up and share their unique perspectives while working virtually, which creates, in the process, better business solutions and a strong sense of well-being and belonging.

Edinburgh WIBF Board Member Ruth Armstrong, who both organized and participated in the event, says: “Susan’s content and delivery didn’t disappoint. It was energizing and everyone was engaged and enthusiastic. We used the chat box functionality and participants were eager to feedback and ask questions following their breakout room session. Encouragingly, we also saw lots of cameras being switched on for the session’s practical aspects – like the vocal warm up Susan demonstrated and encouraged everyone to try with her.”

Susan says: “This was my first session with WIBF and also my first experience of presenting virtually on a webinar of this size. Somewhat ironically, while I was encouraging participants to think about what they don’t get to see or hear when communicating virtually, I was unable to see everyone I was presenting to at the same time on this webinar! It reinforced more than ever for me the power of voice, the impact of body language, the value of eye contact and just how much it is possible to miss when communicating virtually! I loved this experience though, especially the fantastic ‘live chat box’ engagement. I learned a great deal from this completely different group dynamic so thanks to all those WIBF members who joined me and made me feel so welcome.”

Feedback was 4 and 5 stars all around. This session wasn’t recorded so if you are now kicking yourself that you missed it please let us know and, if we can, we’ll invite Susan to re-join us.
