Event overview

IoD City, ING, State Street and WIBF are delighted to invite you to mark International Women's Day and celebrate this year’s theme #BalanceforBetter.

Bookings are closed for this event.

State Street and ING kindly hosted WIBF’s London International Women’s Day event in partnership with the IOD. It was a brilliant, thought-provoking event timed perfectly with the unveiling of StateStreet’s Fearless Girl in Paternoster Square and on the front of the FT that day.

The event kicked off with a powerful video about Fearless Girl highlighting the impact that she has had and is capable of having in both the USA, the UK and more globally. Guests were given the opportunity to spend time with her throughout the evening and have their picture taken which proved a great hit.

Gunjan Chauhan, Senior MD, Head of EMEA Cash Business at StateStreet gave an overview of the latest fascinating research from StateStreet titled “Gender Equality: Better for Growth, Debt, Income, Equality and Sustainability”. Market leading and insightful. It was an eye opener looking at gender challenges and practices on a global basis. Well worth a read.

Richard Lacaille, EVP, Global Chief Investment Officer at StateStreet then spoke of StateStreet’s conscious decision to have an impact through active stewardship and questioning gender diversity on boards using their voting rights. State Street have had much success with this but, obviously, there is more progress to be made.

The panel chaired by Vivienne Artz, President of WIBF, was interesting and stimulated much conversation. Richard Lacaille gave an overview of some of the tools that State Street are using to tackle these issues. David Stringer-Lamarre, Chair IOD London, spoke of the challenges the IOD are facing and what changes need to be made. Jess Exton, Behavioural Economist at ING, tackled key gender trends in financial investing which was very interesting. And, Sophie Haslehurst, Associate Financial Planning Director at Investec Wealth and Investment, spoke about the challenges with the pensions gender gap and what needs to change to address these.

This session was followed by a lively Q&A and networking over drinks. A brilliant event highlighting key issues whilst exploring #balanceforbetter and suggesting practical ways forward.
