The International Alliance for Women (TIAW) is launching its newest initiative, The Global Cities Programme, with a gathering of influential women and women leaders that will take place in London on 14th May.
The luncheon will feature a keynote presentation by Andrea Sullivan, Head of Corporate Philanthropy and Cultural Partnerships for Europe and the Middle East at Lehman Brothers. Andrea will talk about her career journey both professionally and personally. Her role at Lehman’s is to enhance and expand the firm’s social commitment. In the course of her career, Andrea held a variety of senior positions across the legal, telecommunications and media sectors. She also consulted corporations and not-for-profit organisations on their commercial development and social marketing strategy. Andrea is active in Lehman’s European Women’s Network (EWILL) and in its Centre for Women in Business at the London Business School.
Andrea’s presentation will be introduced by Ruth Sealy, Doctoral Researcher from the International Centre for Women Leaders at Cranfield University’s School of Management, who will be speaking about female role models. The lack of senior female role models continues to be cited as a key barrier to women’s career success. Ruth’s projects show how organisations need to develop much deeper levels of cultural, emotional and relational awareness, in order to encourage women to aspire to leadership positions.
The luncheon is co-hosted by one of TIAW’s most committed members, Women in Banking and Finance, a leading networking group aimed to provide support and encouragement to members in their professional life. It is sponsored by Stargate’s Trapezia Fund, (www.trapeziacapital.co.uk) the UK’s first venture capital program specialised in backing women-focused businesses.
This event is the first of a series TIAW will be organising in the framework of its Global Cities Programme, an initiative meant to bring together members in their respective regions to discuss topical issues and foster the adoption of good network management and organisational best practices. (For more details about TIAW, please visit their website http://www.tiaw.org/ )
TIAW has chosen a very unique setting for this event, one reflective of the truly international and cosmopolitan nature of London. It will be held in the stunning Grade II listed headquarters of Asia House, the leading pan-Asian organisation in Britain, designed to promote the appreciation and understanding of Asian countries, their arts, culture and religion. Lunch will be provided by one of London's landmark restaurants, the award-winning Cafe Spice Namaste.
